| In the beginning
they said God created man in His own image Male and female He created them But where am I A woman looking into the mirror Provided by God the Father I see no reflection of my self The Mother of my soul is not there Not in a woman born from Adam’s rib Not in a virgin giving birth Ignorant of her own sexuality Like a girl child Always on the outside Looking in the window of my religion I find no doorway Like a hungry woman I search in widening circles Outside patriarchal boundaries For spiritual food And then I find Her waiting At the center In the beginning was Shekhinah The Feminine Face of God
